In the fall of 1940 the T 32 was given thicker armour and got a more powerful engine. Production began under a new name that would go into tank history forever - T 34.
The turret was a new velded construction but the gun was not upgraded to the same extent as the armour and critics tried to stop the production for that and other reasons. The good mobility was there right from the beginning with the strong 12 cylinder engine. The sloping sides of the turret were in line with the sides of the hull, making it hard for a anti-tank shell to bite.
