The Colossus of Min
Dynasty 0   (~ 3.300 BC)

This big statue (in brown) is one of a pair found in the re- mains of the temple in Coptos in Upper Egypt. It's 1,77 m tall and shows the fertility god in later times known as Min hol- ding his erected phallus.
The original height was about 2,6 m and the missing head was probably similar to one of a bearded man known from lots of sculpturs in ivory, clay and stone.
Handling hard stone was obvi- ously already a skill well de- veloped.
The head used in this recon- struction is taken from an ivory statuette from the same period of time.
