In the T 34 model 1942 the design took a huge step forward with a larger and higher hexagonal cast turret with two hatches. The looking glass for the driver and mantlet for the machine gun at the front were also redesign for the better. The vessels manufactured at the Tractor Factory in Tjeljabinsk (also called Tankograd) had a cast turret of a special shape (see picture) almost looking like a German helmet turned backwards. The thickness of the armour had increased and this new turret had a 65 mm protection. Identification mark for the model: two big bulbs at the mantlet where the gun was attached to the turret (see drawing below). |
